Kay Burningham Lawsuit: Gaddy v. COP

The ExMormon Foundation Board members have reviewed the claims in the lawsuit Gaddy v. The Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The ExMormon Foundation Board supports this lawsuit, which proposes to expose the fraudulent practices of the Mormon Church in its efforts to proselytize to prospective members and retain existing members. The Board has voted to facilitate donations to fund the expenses associated with filing this suit, which has been brought by attorney, Kay Burningham. 100% of donations designated specifically to support the lawsuit will be forwarded by the foundation to the attorneys representing Ms. Gaddy, to be deposited in their attorney trust account for Gaddy v. COP.

If the case is ultimately successful, meaning if a potential class is certified, and a favorable class judgment or class wide settlement against the Church is obtained, all of the amounts donated through the ExMormon Foundation will be deducted from any attorney's fees awarded as part of that judgment or settlement. That amount will be re-donated to the ExMormon community to use as it determines for the benefit of former Mormons.

The most recent status update for the case can be found by clicking here.

President's Message

I have been a member of this board for nearly a decade now, but this is my first time as acting President. In this time I have been involved in providing online support to what seemed to be a small fraction of the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who are doubting and then leaving the church. That number has now grown to tens of thousands each year.

The access to information and discussion on the internet has been an "awakening" for the many souls so broken, who had no idea what was actually wrong with them...

Personal Stories

Why I Left
by Richard Packham

I left the Mormon church in 1958, when I was 25 years old.

Why, after all these years, would I still be concerned, then, about Mormonism? Why have I not yet come to terms with that distant part of my past and left it behind?
